This is to show some of the current work I am doing on this project. A full article with citation will be posted later.

There are many similar looking described and undescribed species amongst the spotted Corydoras of Lineage-8 Sub-clade 4. Two of the most commonly imported and most commonly misidentified by local fish store workers and even whole distributors is Corydoras agassizii and Corydoras ambiacus. These two species share similar waters and can be found living amongst each other. These are extremely difficult to identify because the original descriptors of the species were fairly vague in their descriptions. I recently had a conversation with Ian Fuller, co-author of Identify Corydoradinae Catfish and he said “they[C. agassizii and C. ambiacus] may be just variants of a single species.” Hinting that we may be seeing a synonymization of the two individual species in the future.
